☆ Well, it's been quite a while since I last blogged something, once again. I'm just so busy all the time, between school, math team, applying to colleges, working on my portfolio, and somewhere in there trying to get some type of sleep and intake of food. >_<;;
☆ A lot of things have happened since my last post. I had a ton of fun with my friends at the convention, I got really busy doing schoolwork this week, I found a really awesome place at school I haven't known about until now, and math team. I guess I'll talk about these in order.
☆ Overall, the convention I attended, Hawaii Entertainment Expo, was a lot of fun. It was pretty good despite being a first year convention. I absolutely L-O-V-E-D the lolita fashion show! My favorite pieces were definitely the swimsuit line by Lauren Lee and all of the sweet lolita dresses from the two designers I saw. <3 I made some great new friends, got to play Rock Band for about half an hour, saw an epic fight scene, ate McDonalds for dinner, got some fun pictures of everyone in cosplay, and bought some great stuff!
☆ I got quite the haul of stuff from shopping: Manga Tarot deck and guide from manga university, "The Manga Cookbook" from manga university, a silver pocket-watch from a steampunk jewelry dealer, a white rose hair clip, cherry hair clips, a TON of buttons (I have a bit of a button fetish <3), a cake cell phone charm, a good luck necklace, and a bunch of free packs of Digimon trading cards!
☆ The only things I really disliked were that the rave was kind of lame (ten people attending = fail rave) and nothing seemed to really start on time. Also, the lack of costume contest made my inner cosplayer very sad.
☆ Following that weekend, I returned to school, extremely tired but with a lot of work to do. Being a senior is never fun. =_=;;
☆ After school, however, I stopped by my grandma's house to pick up two bags of mangoes she got from her sister. One was for me and my parents, and the other was for a new friend she had made at a documentary screening.
☆ You see, one of my grandma's uncles had a very important job during World War II. He was one of the men hired by the U.S. government to live on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean so it would be "occupied" and therefore, part of the country, or something like that. Sadly, he was killed by Japanese planes that bombed the island, along with the other men he was living with...
☆ A documentary was recently made about these men, and when my grandma and her sisters were at the screening, she met an older woman around her age who had been one of the researchers for the film. It also turns out that this woman works for my school as an archivist, so my grandma wanted to give her a bag of mangoes as a thank you, because she had so much information on my great grand uncle's experience than anyone in our family knew.
☆ So after school Wednesday I went into the basement of the library to drop off the bag in the archives room.
☆ Oh, my god.
☆ The school archives has to be one of the most amazing places on campus. The shelves are jam-packed with all kind of boxes and books and folders and papers, and there's so many artifacts and amazing decor, I don't know where to begin. TONS of certificates that belonged to one of our school's former trustees hanging on the wall, a giant wooden statue, trophies all the way back from 1920 ranging from things like tennis championships to having the biggest pig at a county fair, a spear from a Tahitian chief, graduation robes from a former president of the school... it's AMAZING! Like a museum!
☆ The woman I met, let's call her Mrs. Z, was very gracious and kind, as well as extremely knowledgeable. Coincidentally, her husband loves mangoes, so giving them to her put her in a wonderful mood. I ended up staying half an hour, rather than a few minutes, and though some of that time was spent looking for a news article she had found for my grandmother, all about our uncle and the other men who died from the island bombing, a good chunk of it was a lot of stories about the artifacts.
☆ Mrs. Z told me that, sadly, not many students visit the archives room, and some graduate not even knowing it exists. She invited me to come back later to hear more stories and look at the feather lei collection, and gave me an informative (and interesting) booklet on the history of our school, which she and three other historians working for our school compiled. Not many of them have been printed, and she normally doesn't just hand them out to students, so I feel very special. c:
☆ Most definitely, I am going to return, and I'm going to bring a friend with me.
☆ Mrs. Z is a really nice woman, and I'm glad my grandma sent me to deliver the mangoes to her. I think my grandma has made a great new friend, and maybe I have too. : )
☆ Well, I haven't gotten the chance to go back yet, because the week was so busy, but I'll definitely be making time in the near future to return and talk to Mrs. Z again.
☆ Speaking of the busy week I had, Friday started off with an assembly about Christianity, since I attend a Christian school. No, it's not because my family is super religious or anything. We're pretty average, but it's just that the private schools where I live are like, twelve times better than public schools, and give you a five times better chance of getting into a good college, and an infinitely better chance of getting into a college at all.
☆ But I digress.
☆ The reason I bring up the assembly is that even though I was bored a large chunk of it and don't remember a thing the speakers talked about, there was this really interesting thing that happened, so I feel a point needs to be brought up.
☆ No matter what, no matter how hard you try, no matter how much you attempt to look cool, and no matter how well you try to maintain your dignity while doing so, you can never look impressive while doing a sign language dance. The performers didn't realize this, and one girl especially was so into it that it kind of went past the point of being funny, and more into the realm of just plain awkward to watch.
☆ With that being said, the rest of my Friday involved meeting with my counselor to talk about my college recommendation letters and graduation requirements, with math team practice in the afternoon.
☆ And, once again, my rival has bested me.
☆ I call him my rival, because pretty much since I've been on the team, we've always been in the same events. Not on purpose, but we just have.
☆ And he scores higher than me. Every. Single. Time.
☆ I've never been able to beat him at geometry, trig, basic algebra. Sure sometimes I get one problem right that he doesn't, but overall he ends up beating me every single time.
☆ Every. Single. Time.
☆ Last night, I only lost by 5 points... that's the equivalent to one hard problem.... SO CLOSE. >_< I glared at him over my pizza while the team was eating dinner. One day, some day, I'll beat him. Although, I should probably stop glaring during meals, because I think it makes the rest of the team feel awkward...
☆ That's about all that's happened up until now. Well, the major stuff anyway.
☆ Finding a good way to end these blogs is really difficult... I don't want them to all end up sounding the same, but I don't want it to end awkwardly either, but I suppose I need to pick one of those two.
☆ I guess I'll end by quoting a phrase on one of the awesome buttons I got at the expo last weekend: 'Nobody cares about your stupid farm.' c:
