☆ So I've started my second semester of senior year... my last year of high school. My review of classes goes as follows:
☆ English: This year I'm taking a writing course. The teacher seems nice enough, but there are a few things she says that irk me.
First off, she recommends all of your characters to be like you in some way, because you know yourself the best. My question is: Why? Isn't this kind of limiting? Of course, I haven't voiced this opinion out loud (yet), but still. I know that it's good to write what you know, but it's also possible to write what you don't through interviews, books, and research. With the internet the world has become much smaller now. And I know that she probably meant this as advice to the beginning writers in the class, but...
She's almost forty and most of her characters are all girls/women who grew up in the same place she did and likes the things she does. I'm sorry, what you write about is your business, but as a teacher aren't you supposed to encourage each individual student to do what works for them? And this writing strategy won't really work for me. I like to research a bit and make main characters who aren't that much like me. I recognize that my life is NOT that interesting, and all of the times I have tried to insert myself into a story I end up with a Mary Sue-esque girl running around. I've tried, this strategy fails for me.
Moving on, she also admitted that she's team edward. Which makes most of the girls in class go OMG because 16 out of 20 people in the class are female, most of them still reading Twilight. GOOD LORD.
If my teacher is one of those ladies who advocates Twilight as some of teh best books evar, I'm going to be tempted to hit her in the head with a copy of Dracula.
I really hope not, because she seems pretty cool, like someone I would get along with. I'm hoping she just said that to appease the Twitard fanbase in class.
And on the plus side, she said anyone who turns in a story of a girl falling in love with a magical creature will get a zero.
I'm bringing a drawing of Bella being run over with a van and "TEAM TYLER" written on it to class later, just to test her.
And I'm going to write a story about a girl falling in love with a centaur and then being killed for beastiality... okay, maybe not the second idea. That might be a bit much...
At least this means I get to spend a lot of time writing, regardless of if it fits to her standards or not.
Two of my friends and my boyfriend are in my class, though. And we're probably going to form a writing group together. Another thing my teacher says is that most times boyfriends and girlfriends don't make good editors for each other... my boyfriend, however, has been helping me edit my writing since BEFORE I started dating. So I'm going to disagree with her here too. Maybe some couples would have problems, but I won't and don't.
☆ Okay, time to stop bashing. Moving onto Music. I'm learning to play an instrument as a graduation requirement. I'm BAD at it, but luckily my teacher is treating everyone like we're all total retards when it comes to music so the class is going at a pace I can keep up to.
Of course, everyone else seems bored because of this, but whatever, that doesn't matter to me much. I'm just glad I'm passing.
I'm going to take home an instrument loan over the weekends as often as possible so I can get better. c:
I don't know anyone in the class except for one guy in my grade (mostly underclassmen), but that's okay. None of us really work together for anything during class so it's not a big deal.
☆ Last new class is Economics. I really like the teacher. She doesn't take crap from anyone but tells people when they're wrong in a very polite way. Her class is extremely challenging, but I think I'm going to do very well when it comes time to take my AP economics exam.
The homework is already beginning to kill me, but that's okay. I'm learning a lot of interesting things and I like to learn, so that makes me happy.
I'm planning on using what I learn to take advantage of the virtual markets for all the online games I play...
...that's legal, right?
☆ I got assigned to a new PE teacher. She seems nice and takes pity on me because of my health problems. I think this means I'm going to pass. Yay! :D
☆ Also, I thought my calculator was stolen, but luckily my mom found it in my room. Also yay! Sadly, I didn't get the program to complete the homework for the weekend. Boo! D:
☆ I need to finish doing college stuff... it always seems like that's the case. D:
